Standards and Qualifications
Quality control (QC) is critical to Flexpipe Systems’ manufacturing process. From supplier evaluation and approval to the qualification of every finished reel of pipe, quality control data is diligently reviewed and evaluated. Flexpipe Systems is committed to using suppliers that provide material-composition data and maintain certification and QC test results for all raw products. Material certification and traceability is critical to Flexpipe Systems’ quality assurance program that cohesively links raw materials with production records.
The design and manufacturing of FlexPipe and FlexCord Linepipe is in accordance with standards and guidelines regarding qualification, quality control and testing of composite pipe and accessories:
- ASTM F2686-10 – FlexPipe Linepipe is accepted as an ASTM International Standard as specified in “Standard Specification for Glass Fiber Reinforced Thermoplastic Pipe”.
- API (American Petroleum Institute) - Flexpipe products are designed, qualified, and manufactured in accordance with API RP 15S, “Recommended Practice for the Qualification of Spoolable Reinforced Plastic Line Pipe”.
- ASME – Flexpipe Flanges are compliant with the requirements of ASME B16.5, “Pipe Flanges and Flanged Fittings”.
- ISO 9001:2008 – Flexpipe Systems is certified as meeting the requirements of ISO 9001:2008, “Quality Management Systems – Requirements”.
- CSA (Canadian Standards Association) - Flexpipe products meet the requirements of CSA Z662-07, “Oil and Gas Pipeline Systems”, which covers the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of oil and gas industry pipeline systems.
- ERCB (Energy Resources Conservation Board) – governing body in Alberta, Canada.
- The ERCB allows FlexPipe Linepipe applications to be processed as routine for fresh water, salt water, multiphase, crude oil/LVP, and natural gas service (including sour service). Directive 056 confirms the suitability of FlexPipe Linepipe for gas applications up to the CSA Z662-07 limit of 9930 kPa and for other types of applications up to FlexPipe’s maximum pressure rating.
- The ERCB allows FlexCord Linepipe applications to be submitted for pipeline applications with up to 800 ppm H2S.
- DOT (The United States Department of Transportation) – The DOT considers the use of FlexPipe and FlexCord Linepipe in regulated applications through waiver applications submitted to the Office of Pipeline Safety.
- Jana Laboratories (Independent Third Party Laboratory) – Jana Laboratories conducted an independent third party audit of Flexpipe Systems’ test capabilities and practices and found that the company has the required equipment, procedures, and personnel to generate data in accordance with API RP 15S.
