Frequently Asked Questions
How much pipe is on a reel?
Typical full reel lengths for Flexpipe Systems’ products are listed in the table below. Please note that lengths may vary. Partial reels are also available. Please contact a Flexpipe Systems representative to further discuss your pipe requirements.

FlexPipe and FlexCord are high pressure, corrosion resistant, spoolable pipeline systems used for oil and gas gathering, including projects with H2S/CO2 content, water transfer lines, salt water disposal systems, and in other applications in which a corrosion resistant pipeline system is required.
FlexCord Linepipe can be used in cyclic/high pulsation conditions or when using Triplex or Duplex pumps.
FlexPipe HT Linepipe (High Temperature) is used in severe heat applications up to 82˚C or 180˚F.
Please contact a Flexpipe representative to further discuss your application. Can FlexPipe and FlexCord Linepipe be used for sour applications?
FlexPipe Linepipe can be used for sour applications. Flexpipe Systems recommends limiting H2S content to 5% for FlexPipe Linepipe in oil effluent and water applications. Higher H2S content can be evaluated on a case by case basis. In accordance with CSA Z662-07, single phase gas applications are limited to a maximum 50 kPa partial pressure of H2S for all composite pipe products. For example, this corresponds to 1% at 750 psi (5 MPa).
FlexCord Linepipe can be used in services carrying a maximum of 800 ppm H2S at pressures up to 9930 kPa. All sour applications are reviewed by a Flexpipe Systems Application Engineer to ensure product suitability.Who can install Flexpipe Systems’ pipeline products?
FlexPipe and FlexCord Linepipe are both very easy to unspool, trench, plow or pull as a freestanding liner. While we will work with your preferred contractor to do any of these installations, only a Flexpipe Systems Field Technician or a Flexpipe Systems Certified Installer can perform the joining. Flexpipe Systems regularly puts on one-day training classes to certify technicians. What is the friction factor for FlexPipe and FlexCord Linepipe?
The friction factor is very low. FlexPipe and FlexCord Linepipe have superior flow characteristics when compared to steel given the very smooth inner surface of the pipe. See the Product Data Pages for values. What is the general availability of Flexpipe Systems’ pipeline products?
Flexpipe Systems not only manufactures its 150 ANSI, 300 ANSI, and 600 ANSI product lines at the head office in Calgary, Alberta, but also carries a significant inventory to ensure all delivery requirements are met. Inventory is also available at Solution Centers in Grand Prairie, Alberta; Eastern Saskatchewan; Grand Junction, Colorado; Midland, Texas and Carrizo Springs, Texas to better meet our customer’s pipelining needs. Please consult a Flexpipe Systems representative to discuss availability for your pipe requirements. Can FlexPipe or FlexCord Linepipe be used for temporary surface flowlines?
FlexPipe Linepipe with a white jacket can be used above ground for permanent and temporary surface flowlines. At this time, FlexCord’s lower maximum operating temperature precludes the product from use in this application. FlexPipe Linepipe comes with a durable white jacket to mitigate potential solar radiation absorption. The temperature of the pipe and the fluid being transported must be considered in determining the maximum allowable operating pressure of the pipeline, and the temperatures must be prevented from exceeding 60˚C or 140˚F.
When used as a temporary surface line, FlexPipe Linepipe and fittings can be re-spooled and reused. Will FlexPipe or FlexCord Linepipe float in water?
Yes. Flexpipe Systems can provide suggested weight products and spacing to keep the pipe submerged. Please contact a Flexpipe Systems representative for more information. Can FlexPipe or FlexCord Linepipe be used for downhole applications?
Flexpipe Systems pipeline products have not yet been evaluated for downhole service. What do I need to know about installing Flexpipe Systems’ pipeline products in cold weather?
Flexpipe Systems recommends special precautions for installation in temperatures below -25°C (-13°F). Please refer to the Flexpipe Systems "Installation Guide" or contact a Flexpipe Systems representative for further details. With what standards does FlexPipe and FlexCord Linepipe comply with?
Flexpipe Systems’ products adhere to many internationally accepted standards. A few of these include:
• ASTM F2686-10 – FlexPipe Linepipe is accepted as an ASTM International Standard as specified in “Standard Specification for Glass Fiber Reinforced Thermoplastic Pipe”. • ISO 9001:2008 – Flexpipe Systems is certified as meeting the requirements of ISO 9001:2008, “Quality Management Systems – Requirements”. • ASME – Flexpipe Flanges are compliant with the requirements of ASME B16.5, “Pipe Flanges and Flanged Fittings”. • DOT - Under current U.S. federal regulations, flow lines and gathering lines in sparsely populated areas are unregulated and may be designed and operated without meeting the requirements for regulated pipelines. Flexpipe Systems is working towards an approved pipeline material listing under U.S. federal regulations, and is also working with individual companies to install its products in regulated areas through a waiver application process. What should I do if I want to use FlexPipe or FlexCord Linepipe in an unusual application?
Flexpipe Systems' Engineering Team has established a process to evaluate any proposed unusual applications. Please contact a Flexpipe Systems representative to take advantage of this service.
