1. Question: How much pipe is on a reel?
Answer: Typical full reel lengths for Flexpipe are listed in the table below. Please note that lengths may vary. Partial reels are also available. Please contact a Flexpipe representative to further discuss your pipe requirements.

  FP150 & FP301 FP601
Size (m) (ft) (m) (ft)
2" 1000 (2000*) 3281 (6562*) 1000 (2100*) 3281 (6890*)
3" 750 (1500*) 2461 (4920*) 700 2297
4" 750 2461 600 1969

*Values in parentheses are maximum reel lengths and must be special ordered.  Please contact your representative for more information.

2. Question: What is the position of the Alberta Energy Utilities Board regarding pipelines in Alberta?

Answer: Flexpipe Systems was awarded "Routine Status" for licensing by the AEUB on February 13, 2006. Please click here to download the new AEUB permit guidelines. Flexpipe is fully compliant with CSA Z662-07.

3. Question: For what applications should I consider using Flexpipe?

Answer: Flexpipe line pipe has been designed for all oilfield production environments and gas systems. Applications include oil emulsion, gas gathering, and water disposal pipelines, as well as gas distribution pipelines. Please contact a Flexpipe representative to further discuss your application.

4. Question: Can Flexpipe be used for sour applications?

Answer: Flexpipe can be used for sour applications. Flexpipe recommends limiting H2S content to 5% for Flexpipe line pipe in oil effluent and water applications. Higher H2S content can be evaluated on a case by case basis. In accordance with CSA Z662-07, single phase gas applications are limited to a maximum 50 kPa partial pressure of H2S for all composite pipe products. For example, this corresponds to 1% at 750 psi (5 MPa). Please contact a Flexpipe representative to discuss your application and current regulations.

5. Question: Who can install Flexpipe line pipe?
Answer: Flexpipe line pipe is very easy to string, plough, or pull as a freestanding liner. While we will work with your preferred contractor to do any of these installations, only a Flexpipe service technician or a certified Flexpipe joining technician can perform the joining. Flexpipe regularly puts on one-day training classes to certify technicians.

6. Question: What is the friction factor for Flexpipe line pipe?

Answer: The friction factor is very low. Flexpipe has superior flow characteristics when compared to steel given the very smooth inner surface of the pipe. See the Product Data Sheet for values (FP150, FP301 or FP601).

7. Question: What is the general availability of Flexpipe line pipe?

Answer: Flexpipe not only manufactures its 150 ANSI, 300 ANSI, and 600 ANSI product lines at the head office in Calgary, Alberta, but also carries a significant inventory to ensure all delivery requirements are met. Inventory is also available at the Flexpipe depots in Grand Junction, Colorado; Houston, Texas; and Midland, Texas, to better serve our American based customer requirements. Please consult a Flexpipe representative to discuss availability for your pipe requirements.

8. Question: How can Flexpipe be installed?

Answer: Flexpipe can be ploughed, conventionally trenched, or pulled through an existing pipeline.

9. Questions: Can Flexpipe be used for temporary surface flow lines?

Answer: Flexpipe was designed with a rugged exterior. Its flexibility allows it to be re-reeled easily. Flexpipe is a good candidate for a temporary surface flow line in many applications.

10. Question: What is the upper temperature limit for production running though Flexpipe line pipe?
Answer: Flexpipe line pipe has been qualified for use in the temperature and pressure ranges (MOP) as listed below:

Maximum Operating Temperature MOP for FP150 MOP for FP301 MOP for FP601
'C 'F kPa psi kPa psi kPa psi
60 140 2068 300 5171 750 10,342 1500

11. Question: Will Flexpipe float in water?
Answer: Yes. Flexpipe Systems can provide suggested weight spacing to keep the pipe submerged. Please contact a Flexpipe representative for more information.

12. Question: Can Flexpipe be used for downhole applications?
Answer: Flexpipe has not yet been evaluated for downhole service.

13. Question: Can methanol be injected into Flexpipe line pipe without damage?
Answer: Yes.

14. Question: What do I need to know about installing Flexpipe in cold weather?
Answer: Flexpipe Systems recommends special precautions for installation in temperatures below -25C (-13F). Please refer to the Flexpipe Systems "Installation Guide" or contact a Flexpipe representative for further details.

15. Question: What standards does Flexpipe comply with?
Answer: Flexpipe line pipe has been tested and qualified in accordance with API RP 15S, Recommended Practice for the Qualification of Spoolable Reinforced Plastic Line Pipe. It is also fully compliant with CSA Z662-07, Oil and Gas Pipeline Systems.

The Flexpipe manufacturing facility' quality management system is certified according to ISO 9001:2000.

Under current U.S. federal regulations, flow lines and gathering lines in sparsely populated areas are unregulated and may be designed and operated without meeting the requirements for regulated pipelines. Flexpipe is working towards an approved pipeline material listing under U.S. federal regulations, and is also working with individual companies to install Flexpipe in regulated areas through a waiver application process.

16. Question: What should I do if I want to use Flexpipe in an unusual application?

Answer: Flexpipe Systems' Engineering Team has established a process to evaluate any proposed unusual applications. Please contact a Flexpipe representative to take advantage of this service.
